Baghira

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 9 years

Baghira, a beautiful black cat with silky soft fur and mesmerizing amber eyes, was a wonderful addition to our shelter two and a half years ago. The young female cat was three years old at the time, incredibly affectionate and playful, very attached and irresistibly gentle. As long as she was the undisputed center of attention with her humans. Baghira could not and does not tolerate other cats. And probably other animals as well. This may be because she has lived as a single princess in a home and simply does not understand the concept of sharing her humans. Unfortunately, the baby of her first family also fell into the category of "annoying competition" … Of course, the spoiled single princess did not enjoy her stay with us at all - too little attention and far too many rivals. Although she developed her own tactics to get attention - she quickly climbed up to the object of her desire, targeted its neck and made herself comfortable there - but in the end, everyone was happy that the affectionate Baghira was able to move to a new home quickly. She lived there happily and contentedly with her new humans for two years - until something happened that destroyed the intimate togetherness: apartment cat Baghira escaped and discovered the "great outdoors" for herself. Although she returned to her human companions safely, the coexistence has been permanently strained since then. Because Baghira is no longer satisfied with the restrictions of pure indoor living. She wants out. And when the princess wants out … But safer outdoor access is unfortunately not possible with her current people. Therefore, the bipeds have, after weeks of (ultimately vain) hope for a calming of their little companion, decided to enable her a life that now apparently better suits her needs - and that they cannot offer Baghira.

DE·Show original

Sie will raus. About Baghira

What life with Baghira looks like

Baghira is a large adult mixed breed cat waiting at Katzenhilfe Neuwied e.V. in Neuwied.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Baghira, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Baghira?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Katzenhilfe Neuwied e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Baghira on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Baghira if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Katzenhilfe Neuwied e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Baghira already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Baghira isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Katzenhilfe Neuwied e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Baghira and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
