Herr Fuchs

Mixed Breed · Male

Herr Fuchs is a dainty tomcat, but there’s more to him than initially meets the eye. One would expect a male cat named Fox to have a reddish coat and be quite small – however, Herr Fuchs is predominantly white and exceedingly delicate. His fragile physique might suggest that he is still rather young – actually, Herr Fuchs has twelve proud years under his belt. Especially telling is his friendly greeting for human visitors, which implies he’s a sweet little guy who can’t cause trouble. In reality, he ended up here because he attacked his former owner multiple times. To his credit, it should be noted that Herr Fuchs lived peacefully with his human for many years and was always loving and friendly. For his first outburst, there was also a good reason from his perspective: Like so many of his fellow animals, he was in the way one day, was overlooked by his owner – and literally run over. This was likely very painful and greatly upset Herr Fuchs. He proved particularly resentful afterward and since then tends to launch such attacks when situations don't please him. Additionally, the delicate tomcat had long been struggling with the presence of his feline companion in the same household, which probably caused a consistently high stress level. Eventually, the situation became intolerable for both members of the human-cat community, and Herr Fuchs came to us. At first, he seemed to be "everyone's favorite" because he was thrilled by every biped entering his room and loudly demanded attention, especially cuddles. However, the little guy was clearly not happy about being forcibly moved to an animal shelter, which was evident upon closer contact. Fortunately, our staff were warned and managed to avoid any significant injuries. Now, Herr Fuchs has started to settle in a bit. He’s noticeably more relaxed, and when it looks like he wants to snuggle, he usually does just that: snuggle and enjoy. Nevertheless, he is quite possessive and really cannot stand other cats. Moreover, he has a very short fuse, reacting aggressively if something doesn’t suit him. For his new people, this means they should ideally have considerable experience with “difficult” cats. They need to read Herr Fuchs well enough to recognize when he’s getting irritated enough to use his claws. And on the other hand, they must show him affectionate but firm boundaries, as contrary to his firm belief, he is not the boss. Since Herr Fuchs genuinely loves people, this task can indeed be mastered. After all, it’s also in his best interest to get along well with his people. Given that Herr Fuchs is a very combative tomcat, it must be clear that aggressive training methods are counterproductive and may lead to permanent discord. Herr Fuchs simply has his own way of doing things, and while his energy needs to be channeled into reasonable outlets, he will never become a docile lamb but will remain a self-assured tomcat who knows exactly what he wants – and what he doesn’t. Therefore, his new owners should be very calm and patient, and not deterred by the possibility that it might take a while for Herr Fuchs to adjust to them and the new house rules. Love must grow, and the little Herr Fuchs has a big heart to give. Children and other animals should not live in his new home. Furthermore, after an adjustment period, Herr Fuchs requires secure free-roaming access. For more information and contact: 0157 – 52 68 76 61.

About Herr Fuchs

What life with Herr Fuchs looks like

Herr Fuchs is a large adult mixed breed cat waiting at Katzenhilfe Neuwied e.V. in Neuwied.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Herr Fuchs, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Herr Fuchs?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Katzenhilfe Neuwied e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Herr Fuchs on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Herr Fuchs if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Katzenhilfe Neuwied e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Herr Fuchs already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Herr Fuchs isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Katzenhilfe Neuwied e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Herr Fuchs and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
