How do I contact the shelter about Baikal?

Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ITV Grenzenlos e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Baikal on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.

Can I adopt Baikal if I live in another country?

Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ITV Grenzenlos e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.

Is Baikal already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?

Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.

What happens if Baikal isn't the right fit?

Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ITV Grenzenlos e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Baikal and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.

Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?

TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.

Baikal

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 4 years

Baikal comes from the war-torn city of Kramatorsk, Ukraine. He lived with a family there, but they left him behind when they fled. He ended up in a shelter. He was adopted again and abandoned. Now he is in a foster home in Lviv, where he is being prepared for his journey to Germany, both mentally and medically. ITV Grenzenlos is looking for a patient, animal-loving family for the handsome boy. Baikal has remained a very friendly dog despite all the turmoil and wanderings. He loves people, his fellow dogs, and even cats. He is affectionate with children and wants to become a family dog again. This time, forever. The war has taken a toll on him; he hardly ate out of fear and has become thin. In the foster home, they are taking loving care of him, and he is already gaining weight. Baikal is a dream dog! He needs care, love, and encouragement now so he can forget the war and enjoy life again, carefree and free from the sounds of war. He could come to Germany with a transport in November. Baikal was born around 2022 and measures 40 cm. He is neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. If you are interested, please call: or . Baikal in the video:

Baikal kommt aus der Kriegshölle in Kramatorsk/Ukraine. Er hat dort bei einer Familie gelebt. Die hat ihn zurückgelassen, als sie floh. Dann landete er im Tierheim. Der ITV Grenzenlos sucht eine geduldige tierfreundliche Familie für den hübschen Jungen. Baikal ist bei all den Unruhen und Wanderungen ein sehr freundlicher Hund geblieben. About Baikal

What life with Baikal looks like

Baikal is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at ITV Grenzenlos e.V. in Essel.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.
