Bailey

Unknown · Young · 3 years

Breed: Mechelen Shepherd Age: 15-08-2023 Coat: Short-haired Medical: Vaccinated, microchipped, neutered, dewormed, and declawed Temperament: Affectionate, sweet House-trained: Yes Hi there, I’m Bailey. Together with many other dogs, they rescued me from a dark hole. We were so happy when we finally got to go outside! And all the attention we received—well, that really made us blossom. Together with my mom and younger sister, I got to visit the Dog Campus. You see, we hadn’t seen much of real life and everything that comes with it, so there was plenty to learn. I’m the gentlest and most insecure of the three of us. They think I’m about two years old, though you’d probably think I’m still a puppy when you see me. After a few weeks, I got to go home with one of the trainers to see how I’d do there. It turned out to be quite a surprise! I’m already very house-trained and actually quite calm indoors. I sleep like a dream—softly in my cozy bed, on the couch, and even snuggled up in bed at night. It’s just finding my way around the house that’s still a bit tricky for me. During the day, spending a few hours in my crate goes pretty well. But I don’t quite get it when my human disappears behind a door—and then I immediately start looking for a way to follow them. Chances are, if there’s already a stable dog in the home, I’ll quickly adjust to that situation. After all, I’ve never known anything but living alongside other dogs. Outdoors, I’m constantly seeking companionship too. I’ve already met dogs, cats, and cows here, and I’ve been sweet to them all. Still, lots of things feel exciting to me—movements, sounds, physical contact—I sometimes get startled by them. Though I absolutely love getting lots of cuddles, as long as you’re gentle enough about it. So I’m looking for a quiet home without young children living there. Here, I’ll bond strongly with one particular person and remain a bit shy around the 13-year-old daughter. I won’t be placed as the only dog either; instead, I’ll live with another dog where I can learn how things work. I already walk nicely on leash outdoors, and I absolutely love working together, learning, and playing.

About Bailey

What life with Bailey looks like

Bailey is a large young adult dog waiting at Dierenopvang Hart van Brabant in Netherlands.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bailey, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bailey?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenopvang Hart van Brabant handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bailey on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bailey if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenopvang Hart van Brabant will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bailey already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bailey isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenopvang Hart van Brabant early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bailey and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
