Hello, may I introduce myself? I'm Semmie, a six-year-old dog girl. Nobody knows what breed I am, but everyone at the shelter finds me incredibly lovely! I am well cared for in the shelter, but secretly I still dream of having my own little house. Maybe with you? This is Semmie. Semmie is a gentle, slightly insecure young lady who really winds everyone around her little paw. Literally, even: when she wants attention, she puts her paw on your arm and looks at you with big pleading eyes. How can you say no to that? That becomes petting, petting, and more petting. And honestly, we enjoy it just as much as Semmie, maybe even a little more. Outside, Semmie isn't very steady on her feet. She's not used to heavy traffic and can startle easily at cyclists and cars passing close by. She also sometimes barks quite a lot at other dogs. Not aggression, rather uncertainty. Fortunately, she is very people-oriented and seeks support from the person taking her for a walk. With the right calm and guidance, both Semmie and 'her' human can certainly enjoy the walk. Fun fact: recently, Semmie participated in the Dutch Cell Dogs program, where prisoners train with a shelter dog for seven weeks. The idea is that both parties learn and gain a new chance at a good future. A win-win situation! Semmie enjoyed the training very much and behaved properly. Good to know: Semmie gets special food to keep her gums healthy. These are easy to obtain, and Semmie loves them. What kind of home does Semmie look for? Semmie looks for kind human friends who want to help her face the outside world with more confidence. A shared love for cuddles speaks for itself, and Semmie would probably also enjoy if the owners aren't away from home too much. We would prefer to place her in a quiet (village) environment where traffic doesn't rush along the sidewalk. A house with a garden would be nice, but an apartment is also possible, as long as Semmie can stretch her paws every day. Sometimes going into nature would be great, nicely taken into the forest or heath. Cats or other dogs in the house are not necessary for Semmie, but she could possibly be a nice family dog for a household with calm older children (12+). Finally: although Semmie came to us in the shelter together with her brother Bono, we have found that the two function better separately. Brother and sister can sometimes get each other worked up when they worry about something, which causes unnecessary stress. Therefore, we have decided to place the two apart in principle. Hallo, mag ik me even voorstellen? Ik ben Semmie, een vrolijk hondenmeisje van zeven jaar jong. Niemand weet wat voor ras ik ben, maar in het asiel vindt iedereen mij ontzettend lief! Ik word goed verzorgd in de opvang, maar stiekem droom ik toch van een eigen huisje. Misschien wel bij jou? Dit is Semmie Semmie is een zachtaardige, tikje onzekere jongedame die werkelijk iedereen om haar pootje windt. Letterlijk zelfs: als ze aandacht wil, legt ze haar poot op je arm en kijkt ze je met grote smekende ogen aan. Zeg daar maar eens nee tegen! Dat wordt dus kroelen, kroelen en nog eens kroelen. En eerlijk is eerlijk, wij genieten daar net zo van als Semmie, misschien nog wel een beetje meer. Buiten staat Semmie niet zo heel stevig in haar sokken. In de basis loopt ze netjes mee aan de lijn, maar ze houdt niet zo van druk verkeer en kan behoorlijk blaffen naar andere honden. Geen agressie hoor, eerder onzekerheid. Gelukkig is ze heel mensgericht en zoekt ze graag steun bij de persoon die haar uitlaat. Met de juiste rust en begeleiding kunnen zowel Semmie als ‘haar’ mens dus zeker van de wandeling genieten. Bijzonder weetje: onlangs heeft Semmie meegedaan aan het programma van Dutch Cell Dogs, waarbij gedetineerden zeven weken lang met een asielhond trainen. Het idee is dat beide partijen daarvan leren en een nieuwe kans op een mooie toekomst krijgen. Win-win dus! Semmie heeft met veel plezier aan deze training meegedaan en deed het keurig. Goed om te weten Semmie krijgt speciale brokken om haar tandvlees gezond te houden. Deze zijn makkelijk verkrijgbaar, en Semmie vindt ze heerlijk. Wat voor huisje zoekt ze Semmie zoekt lieve mensenvrienden die het niet erg vinden dat ze wat begeleiding nodig heeft bij het buiten lopen. Een gedeelde liefde voor knuffelen spreekt voor zich, en waarschijnlijk vindt Semmie het ook wel fijn als de baasjes niet al te gek veel van huis zijn. We plaatsen haar het liefst in een rustige (dorps)omgeving waar het verkeer niet langs de stoep raast. Een huis met tuin zou fijn zijn, maar een flat kan ook, zolang Semmie maar iedere dag uitgebreid haar poten kan strekken. Af en toe de natuur in zal ze ook geweldig vinden, lekker mee naar bos of heide. Katten of andere honden in huis hoeft voor Semmie niet zo nodig, maar ze zou mogelijk wel een leuke gezinshond zijn voor een huishouden met rustige grotere kinderen (12+).
