Adopt BAJKA

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 8 years

8 years behind bars... and she still believes Meet Bajka - a dog who spent practically her entire life in an animal shelter. She came here as a small puppy. She grew up behind bars, watching other dogs leave for homes... and she stayed. BAJKA knows life in a home. She was raised with children and cats. She can be part of a family - a real, warm, everyday family. 4 years ago she got her chance - she had her corner, her place... and hope that it would be forever. Unfortunately after 3 years - she returned. Not because of her fault. She ended up where she started again. And yet... she still loves people. BAJKA is a large, strong female dog with a protective instinct. She is not a dog "for everyone" - she needs a conscious caregiver. But for her people she is absolutely wonderful. Devoted, gentle, loyal. She loves human contact, play and walks. She also gets along well with other animals. This is a dog who has a great deal of love inside - but she just doesn't have anyone to give it to. 8 years. That's how long she has been waiting. How much longer? We are looking for a real home for Bajka. A home for good. With responsibility and heart. Give her a chance... before it's too late.

A mimo to… ona nadal kocha ludzi. Bajka to duża, silna sunia o instynkcie stróżującym. Nie jest psem „dla każdego” – potrzebuje świadomego opiekuna. Ale dla swoich ludzi jest absolutnie cudowna. Oddana, czuła, wierna. Uwielbia kontakt z człowiekiem, zabawę i spacery. Dobrze odnajduje się także przy innych zwierzętach. To pies, który ma w sobie ogrom miłości – tylko nie ma komu jej dać. 8 lat. Tyle już czeka.Ile jeszcze? Szukamy dla Bajki domu prawdziwego. Takiego na zawsze. Z odpowiedzialnością i sercem.Daj jej szansę… zanim będzie za późno. About BAJKA

What life with BAJKA looks like

BAJKA is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Gnieźnie in Gniezno.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting BAJKA, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about BAJKA?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Gnieźnie handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw BAJKA on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt BAJKA if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Gnieźnie will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is BAJKA already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if BAJKA isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Gnieźnie early rather than rehoming privately; they know BAJKA and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
