Balou

European Shorthair · Male

Balou is a cheerful 13-year-old tomcat. He’s used to taking daily strolls and exploring his neighborhood. Simply being outdoors is good for his fitness and immune system. For the past nine years, he hasn’t needed to see a veterinarian—so, all things considered, he’s in top shape for a cat his age. However, jumping and climbing have become a bit more challenging for him. As a result, his current home has become less accessible for him, and the Animal’s Faith foundation is looking for a new home where this friendly, independent cat can live to a very old age. He always has a good appetite and loves coming home just for that. When you call his name, Balou responds vocally. He enjoys chatting—and quite a lot, actually. He also loves getting a cuddle or a scratch, but he doesn’t seem to be the type of cat who likes to sit on laps. Where can we find an easily accessible garden in a cat-friendly neighborhood, complete with a cozy golden basket, for this lovely Balou? Breed: European Shorthair Gender: Tomcat—neutered Date of birth: March 2013 Health check: Vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed Can live with children: Yes, with calm children aged 14 and older Can live with dogs: Unknown Can live with other cats: Yes If you’re unable to adopt Balou but would still like to support him, click here and become a sponsor today!

NL·Show original

About Balou

What life with Balou looks like

Balou is a adult european shorthair cat waiting at Stichting Animals Faith in Netherlands.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Balou, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Balou?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Stichting Animals Faith handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Balou on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Balou if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Stichting Animals Faith will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Balou already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Balou isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Stichting Animals Faith early rather than rehoming privately; they know Balou and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
