adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Now request this dog! Our Balthasar is an imposing, beautiful herding puppy at about 1.5 years old. With his 67 cm shoulder height and 33 kg, he not only brings size but also a lot of heart. His foster mom describes him affectionately as: "Balthasar is a true treasure – but not a beginner puppy. He is a mid-puberty Herdi-pup, a raw diamond with great potential that wants to be seen, fostered, and further strengthened." And precisely here is where we step in: For Balthasar, we are looking for people who love and understand these special dogs. People who can read his fine body language, respect his boundaries, and accompany him with patience, clarity, and positive reinforcement. Experience with herding puppies is a significant advantage, as is the willingness to continue learning. A visit to a suitable, HSH-experienced dog training class would surely bring him much joy and strengthen you as a team. People generally meet Balthasar openly and friendly. For example, the vet is always delighted by how cooperative and relaxed he is during examinations, vaccinations, and check-ups. To his foster family, he is loyal and adores "his people" devotedly. He is very cuddly and enjoys every form of affection, whether grooming, cuddles, or relaxed snuggling moments. He is happy to be nearby without being intrusive and finds peace when he is physically and mentally stimulated. Balthasar wishes for a quiet, rural home with a sufficiently large and securely fenced yard. Being outside and living out his space is important to him, just as the close bond with his people. A life at a distance or exclusion would greatly burden the sensitive puppy. Due to his size and strength, we see children in the household only from about 14 years old, who respect and understand his nature. In his foster home, Balthasar lives problem-free with other dogs of any gender as well as with housecats. After a proper adjustment period, he also accepts chickens and rabbits in a secure free-range. With patient and responsible introduction, other larger farm animals could also be in the new home. However, free-roaming, unfamiliar cats are not among his friends. With his fellow animals, he is generally well compatible, plays, and frolics happily. Due to his size, strength, and sometimes still youthful clumsiness, his dog buddies should be steady. Overbearing or dominant dogs are not to his liking, here he shows confidence and sets clear boundaries. A friendly, sovereign dog buddy in the new home would surely please him. Only at feeding does Balthasar show a pronounced resource defense against other dogs. With good management, however, this can be handled reliably and stress-free. His foster home gladly provides helpful tips. Balthasar already brings a lot to the table: He responds well to his name, rides calmly in the car, and knows basic commands. He is leash and harness trained, likes to play (even alone), and loves his ball. He finds walks great, but is often still full of anticipation and excitement at the beginning. Here, further loving, consistent guidance is needed. Currently, our young male dog is in the middle of puberty – an intense developmental phase that is both exciting and challenging. During this time, he experiments, questions boundaries, and searches for reliable orientation. Right now, he needs people who can accompany him calmly, patiently, and with a lot of empathy. A gentle, clear guidance works best with him, while pressure or loud words quickly unsettle him. There is still so much more to say about Balthasar, for he is a very special dog with a big heart and a similarly large personality. If you fall in love with this majestic cuddle bear and want to give him a suitable home, we are very happy to hear from you. His foster home is happy to answer any further questions. Balthasar is microchipped, neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea-treated. Of course, he brings his EU pet passport with him. Stand: 27.03.

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen! Stand: 27.03.2026

About Balthasar

What life with Balthasar looks like

Balthasar is a extra-large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Balthasar, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Balthasar?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Balthasar on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Balthasar if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Balthasar already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Balthasar isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Balthasar and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
