Balu

Rottweiler · Male · Adult · 5 years

A refined character seeks a dog-experienced home with structure and patience I am Balu – a stately male dog with great potential, but also a few construction sites. As a young puppy, I came to an inexperienced dog family. Unfortunately, I never learned what clear rules are or how reliable people feel like there. Somewhere along the way, I felt pressured – and I bit. Whoever pressures me should not underestimate me and must be able to read my signals well. Even today: If someone is clumsy or ignores my boundaries, I will make that clear – and then I would also bite. What sets me apart: I am a model student when it comes to leash manners – I walk beautifully on the leash and can be calmly passed by other dogs (as long as they don't pester me) I am compatible with female dogs – if the chemistry is right, I could live well in a household with a stable female dog I know the muzzle and can wear it without any problems I have a fine character – when I open my heart, I am a very loyal dog and enjoy the company of my people A great dog for Rottweiler fans – I can work wonderfully with me Still need to learn: I am unsure in small spaces and with strangers – especially if they are clumsy or too pushy I need a lot of time and patience to build trust – but those who make the effort will have a loyal and loving dog at their side Experience with large dogs should be present – I need clear guidance and people who understand me One can work wonderfully with me and we hope to find people who also want that soon. If you want to give me the right home or have questions about me, please contact my caretakers at this breed Shelter or fill out our inquiry form. Please plan several visits for the trust-building process – I choose my people carefully. And when I open my heart, you win a loyal companion with a lot of personality. This animal is not suitable for homes with children.

About Balu

What life with Balu looks like

Balu is a large adult rottweiler dog waiting at Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg in Berlin.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Requires muzzle training, has bite history, needs structured environment with clear boundaries

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Balu, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Balu?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Balu on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Balu if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Balu already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Balu isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Balu and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
