Bandzior

Male · Adult · 6 years

Bandziu has a challenging past behind him. Initially, he tended to be rather aloof and it took some time before people started working with him outside of boxing. Today, several people claim that he’s one of the most wonderful dogs they’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. He’s a highly intelligent dog who communicates very clearly both with humans and other animals. His greatest motivation is toys—especially balls or stuffed animals. He also does very well on wet food. Taking him for walks is a real joy—the leash almost never gets taut, and Bandzior knows how to adjust his pace to match that of the person walking alongside him. When passing cats that are moving slowly, he remains neutral and doesn’t pay them any attention; in direct encounters, he’s neutral at best, occasionally showing a bit of curiosity. In most cases, Bandzior has a positive or neutral attitude toward other dogs—he communicates exceptionally well, though he doesn’t like it when dogs become overly persistent; in such situations, he knows how to set boundaries. He absolutely loves sniffing around and rolling in the mud and water. Wading in the large pool on the shelter grounds or in the pond brings him immense joy. He also responds brilliantly to the clicker as a reward cue and reacts to his own name (in various diminutive forms), being responsive to it in 90% of cases. During walks, he adores carrying a toy in his mouth; this can even help him de-stress and calm down if he gets scared about something. After walks, he loves cuddling in his kennel, being petted, lying together, and snuggling up close. At these times, he’s incredibly gentle in his interactions and actively seeks out attention. He knows commands such as “sit,” “paw,” “other paw,” “hop” (placing both paws on an extended hand), and “stay.” He targets a human hand beautifully when he wants to play. He bravely endures visits to the vet’s office alongside his volunteers and, when necessary, tolerates having a muzzle put on temporarily. However, he hasn’t fully mastered wearing a muzzle yet. Bandzior does have several phobias, primarily a fear of—and often reactive responses to—men with facial hair. He feels extremely insecure around them. We’re looking for a home for Bandzior that: ♡ is active ♡ is willing to continue working with a dog ♡ isn’t afraid of possible damage during the initial period after the dog moves in ♡ doesn’t have small children ♡ understands the specific characteristics of American Staffordshire Terrier breeds and is open to learning new things.

PL·Show original

About Bandzior

What life with Bandzior looks like

Bandzior is a large adult dog waiting at Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu in Poznan.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bandzior, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bandzior?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bandzior on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bandzior if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bandzior already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bandzior isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bandzior and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
