Banjo

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 3 years

I am a dog who can sometimes seem a bit wary, but all it takes is giving me attention, affection, and some walks for me to melt completely. Birth date: 01/16/2023 My life story: I arrived at the shelter in July 2025, along with my sister, Bonita. Our mother belonged to a woman without a shelter in Lagos, who unfortunately passed away. After that, we were cared for by a generous person who had a farm and took us in for over a year. She treated us with care and managed to find a new home for our mother. Unfortunately, this person had to move and, without the means to continue taking care of us, she brought us to the shelter - with the certainty that we would be well cared for here and have a new opportunity to find a home. My temperament: I am a dog who can sometimes seem a bit wary, but all it takes is giving me attention, affection, and some walks for me to melt completely. Gradually, I gain confidence and become more sociable. Behind my tough appearance is a gentle heart that simply wants to find a home of its own - a place where it can have a family that truly loves it. I promise to be the best companion in the world! I will repay all the love with good behavior, loyalty, and many moments of tenderness. I am a large dog, used to living outdoors, so the ideal would be for my new home to have an outdoor space where I can feel comfortable.

About Banjo

What life with Banjo looks like

Banjo is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Cadela Carlota & Companhia in Portugal.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇹Adopting from Portugal

Portuguese rescues coordinate extensively with European rescue networks for cross-border placements, especially for galgos and podencos. Sterilization, vaccinations, and microchip ID are standard. Adoption fees typically cover the full vet workup.

Frequently asked

Adopting Banjo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Banjo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Cadela Carlota & Companhia handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Banjo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Banjo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Cadela Carlota & Companhia will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Banjo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Banjo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Cadela Carlota & Companhia early rather than rehoming privately; they know Banjo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PT). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
