Baril

German Shepherd · Male · Senior · 9 years

Baril is a 7-8 year old German Shepherd who ended up in the animal shelter very neglected and overweight. Today, he is slowly regaining his shape and above all, his life. He is a large, strong dog who does not always realize his size. He can be unpolished, may pull on the leash, demand attention, but at the same time is gentle, longs for contact and pats. He is like a typical German Shepherd - smart, quick to learn (also tricks "to his own advantage"), needs movement, challenges and a person who will guide him with sensitivity. On the leash he is getting better and better, and with other dogs he is usually compatible. We are looking for a calm but consistent caregiver for him - preferably without small children - who will love his unique character.

PL·Show original

Baril to ok. 7–8-letni pies w typie owczarka niemieckiego, który trafił do schroniska bardzo zaniedbany i otyły. Dziś powoli wraca do formy, a przede wszystkim – do życia.

About Baril

What life with Baril looks like

Baril is a extra-large senior german shepherd dog waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

Note from the shelter: Was severely neglected and overweight when rescued, still recovering physically and mentally

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Baril, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Baril?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Baril on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Baril if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Baril already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Baril isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Baril and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
