adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Now request this dog! BÄRli, an impressive male dog with an estimated size of 50 cm and a weight of about 20 kg, is desperately in need of an age-appropriate home. He was rescued from the public shelter in Zalau and his story has left deep marks on him: He is unfortunately very shy and reserved. BÄRli hardly lets us touch him, as he obviously did not have an easy life. We do not want to stress him; our animal rescuer Alexandra is the only one who sometimes manages to gently touch his leg. What BÄRli is currently most affected by is the noise in his current environment. The constant barking of the other dogs stresses him so much that he mostly just sits in his hut. But there is hope: He is very interested in food! We are optimistic that he will become more relaxed in the right, quiet environment and then make progress. This sensitive hound wishes for people with great patience and empathy who understand his needs and can give him the absolute peace he so desperately needs. He is compatible with fellow animals and therefore does not seek a single place. Whether he gets along with cats has not been tested. BÄRli is a emergency opio and desperately needs his chance at a gentle retirement. He has hardly any teeth left and may become blind soon. He needs a home where he can simply arrive and feel safe – without expectations, without hustle. A protected place where he can learn to trust is the greatest gift you can give him. BÄRli travels neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, and flea-treated, with his EU pet passport in tow. Thanks to many thanks Monika V.! You have given BÄRli the opportunity to be seen through your nametag sponsorship. As of 23.09. Gets along with other dogs.

About BÄRli

What life with BÄRli looks like

BÄRli is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting BÄRli, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about BÄRli?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw BÄRli on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt BÄRli if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is BÄRli already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if BÄRli isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know BÄRli and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
