Adopt Barney

Golden Retriever · Male · Adult · 6 years

Our Barney on a walk - Video Our Barney with a female dog on a walk - Video Our Barney enjoys the scratching session - Video Barney is an open, friendly male dog who loves people more than anything. He enjoys affection and cuddles very much, and time with his trusted people means a lot to him. Walks count among his favorite activities, which he approaches more relaxed. Barney likes to go at his own pace and sniffs extensively to explore his surroundings. On the leash, he already walks very nicely and orientates himself well to the human. Occasionally, he shows a small stubborn streak, for example, if he wants to take a different direction – on his charming way, he usually just brings a smile. In everyday life, Barney is calm: joggers, bicycles, or other passersby do not faze him. Encounters with other dogs usually go smoothly too. In some situations, he can fix a single dog briefly, but he can be addressed calmly and clearly. Currently, Barney lives with another male dog and shows social compatibility there as well. After an incident with another dog in his previous home, he was classified as dangerous and currently wears a muzzle, which he accepts without difficulty. At the moment, it is still being checked whether and how this classification can be lifted. Barney wishes for a home with people who appreciate his loving, open nature, give him security, and like to go through life with him. With him, one gains a loyal companion who brings a lot of joy, closeness, and beautiful shared moments.

About Barney

What life with Barney looks like

Barney is a medium-sized adult golden retriever dog waiting at Kreistierheim Böblingen in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Barney, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Barney?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Kreistierheim Böblingen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Barney on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Barney if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Kreistierheim Böblingen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Barney already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Barney isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Kreistierheim Böblingen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Barney and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
