Adopt Zona

Golden Retriever · Female · Senior · 11 years

Zona is a delicate, quiet female dog whose life has been marked by deprivation and isolation from the start. Growing up together with her sister—who has since found a home—she was raised in a dark basement without light, warmth, or human proximity. These early experiences have deeply shaped Zona. To this day, she is very shy and cautious around people, preferring to avoid them and needing a lot of time to feel safe. However, it is important to note that Zona is not aggressive. Her reactions stem exclusively from fear and insecurity. For a brief time, we thought that Zona would finally find her home. Unfortunately, she was returned to the shelter after a short period, not because she did anything wrong, but because her fear of people became too great. This experience has once again shaken her fragile trust in humans. Despite everything, Zona carries a gentle nature within her. She is not a female dog who demands or fights—she is a sensitive, finely tuned puppy-dog that seeks security, especially from other dogs. She is highly attuned to fellow animals, seeks their proximity, and appears much more relaxed when not alone. Therefore, we desperately wish for her a home with a confident, only dog who can provide her with orientation and security. Zona needs a quiet, rural living space with a securely fenced garden as well as people with experience in dealing with anxious dogs. People who do not place expectations on her but give her the time she needs. Small steps, gentle structures, and understanding are the key for Zona.

About Zona

What life with Zona looks like

Zona is a senior golden retriever dog waiting at Arme Hundeseelen in Năsăud.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇷🇴Adopting from Romania

Romanian rescues handle the highest volume of cross-border adoptions in the EU. Animals are quarantined and fully vetted before transport. Reputable rescues maintain detailed health records and post-adoption follow-up.

Frequently asked

Adopting Zona, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Zona?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Arme Hundeseelen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Zona on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Zona if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Arme Hundeseelen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Zona already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Zona isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Arme Hundeseelen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Zona and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
