Adopt Barney

Mixed Breed · Male

Name: Barney Character: Barney is a big, beautiful dog but not for everyone – he is a dog for people with heart, mind, and experience. At his now 16 months old, he is full of energy, self-confidence, and breed-specific traits that make him a real character dog. Whoever understands him and gives him the right guidance will get a loyal companion who impresses with his presence and loyalty. Barney has now been neutered and this seems to calm him very well. He is now very cooperative. Unfortunately, it didn't work out with him and the children in the first family. The environment was not the right one. The association wanted to send him back to Greece. Therefore, we decided to take him out of the family and place him in a dog kennel. There he is developing very well and we took over Barney for our association. We found a new home for Barney. Despite perfect planning with the new owners plus a trainer on site, it did not work out. Unfortunately, the man showed no interest in training after just 7 days. We immediately took Barney back. Now he is in a new foster home in an animal shelter. He is developing very well there. So far, there has not been a single noticeable behavior problem. On the leash, he walks pleasantly and shows that he is eager to learn. Encounters with people and dogs are now already very positive. With training, this will be further reinforced. Recall and basic signals, he already masters very well. Who is Barney suitable for? Barney seeks a home that offers him peace, security, and clear leadership. Children should not be part of the household. An ideal setting would be a rural area where he can exhibit his watchfulness while also finding tranquility. The perfect home for Barney: Adults with experience handling livestock guardian dogs; confident individuals who enjoy training and joint development; clear structures and consistent leadership; rural surroundings. About Barney

What life with Barney looks like

Barney is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Hundesuche Tiere in Not Bayern in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Barney, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Barney?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hundesuche Tiere in Not Bayern handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Barney on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Barney if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hundesuche Tiere in Not Bayern will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Barney already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Barney isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hundesuche Tiere in Not Bayern early rather than rehoming privately; they know Barney and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
