Adopt Cinna

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 6 months

This dog is not at the animal shelter! If you're interested, please call us at the animal shelter, and we will give you the contact details of the owners. 🙂 We are searching for a new home for our Cinna with really heavy hearts, one that fits him better than ours. Cinna is a 5-year-old (born 09.09.2020) red tri Australian Shepherd male, neutered. He was returned to the breeder around 6 months old by his first owners and came to us afterwards. We have lived with him for 5 years, trained him a lot, and have of course grown very attached to him, but our everyday life is now too unstable, and that makes it permanently hard for Cinna. Also, the combination with our senior female dog does not work anymore, so we are urgently looking for a new home for him. * Australian Shepherd, male, neutered, 5 years * very active, smart, hard-working, and likes to be everywhere * can also wind down: working from home works well for us now, and we are also happy to be cuddled in the evenings * knows and likes the box (car, camping, stressful situations) * driving is no problem (prefers to be in the box) Training & mental stimulation We have worked with Cinna in dog schools for a long time and have always stuck with it. For a while, we also did mantrailing, and he was really good at it. It's clear how much he loves nose work. He also loves practicing tricks and "head on" tasks. basic commands like sit and walking on a loose leash work, and he is generally super eager to learn, only he also has his own mind. (For example, he has taught himself to open doors, so please think about it if he is left alone.) What's actually important, Cinna brings a few topics that shouldn't be sugar-coated. He is not an "beginner dog" and is not a dog who just walks along. * Alone time: He knows it generally (usually with our female dog), but currently, he is going through a phase where being alone is hard for him. A home with little alone time or patience for training would be important. * Sensitive & Under Pressure: Cinna is more of a sensitive one and sometimes gets scared. Under pressure, he does not do well at all, and it makes everything worse. He needs people who stay calm, are clear, and fair. * Grooming: Combing and clipping nails are not fun for him. We are rebuilding this step by step, currently partly with a muzzle. He knows it and lets it be put on, but he tries to take it off. * Dog interactions: He is generally social and communicates well. If situations become unfair or it gets heated, he can escalate and may not calm down by himself, which requires good management. * Food and Resources: Very important: Please do not try to take food or resources away from him. Even in the kitchen, nothing is 100% safe for him if you are not careful. This must be taken seriously and managed properly. * Children: Cinna likes children, but he is often too stormy and cannot gauge his strength well. We also had a few situations where he "defended" our 3-year-old daughter against us because he misread the situation. Therefore, we are not looking for a home with small children. In between, he can also be a total clown who wants attention (especially when "Master" comes home). Then he will grab something (a toy, etc.) to make a little show. In such situations, swapping for some good treats usually works, but not with food. We wish for Cinna: * dog-experienced people, ideally with retriever/Aussie experience * a quiet, reliable, structured everyday life * a love for training and appropriate stimulation (nose work would be great!) * clear, fair handling (without pressure, without "hard and fast") * no small children in the home * people who take management seriously (especially around the kitchen/food) You can meet Cinna for a meet and greet in 34355 Staufenberg. This animal has a history of biting.

About Cinna

What life with Cinna looks like

Cinna is a small puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Duderstadt, Tierschutzverein Duderstadt u.U.e.V. in Duderstadt.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Cinna, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Cinna?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Duderstadt, Tierschutzverein Duderstadt u.U.e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Cinna on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Cinna if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Duderstadt, Tierschutzverein Duderstadt u.U.e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Cinna already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Cinna isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Duderstadt, Tierschutzverein Duderstadt u.U.e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Cinna and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
