Adopt Barni

Female · Adult · 4 years

Country of Origin: Hungary The beautiful red ring and the pretty Barni, two dogs, one fate. The two came from the same home, where they repeatedly escaped and wandered through Kecskemét for days. Three times they were caught by the animal shelter, the first time they were not microchipped, which was then done at the shelter. Twice the owner reclaimed them, but on the third time, on January 20, 2024, they stayed at the animal shelter. For the better, as they were clearly neglected. Especially tragic: Barni was pregnant, but her puppies did not survive. Barni is a friendly, loving female dog with a gentle, somewhat concerned look. She enjoys affection and cuddles, things she had barely known before. She already runs well on a leash, and with loving guidance, she will quickly learn the dog ABC. She enjoys movement and mental stimulation. Barni lives with Buster in the kennel, and according to the shelter, she is also compatible with other dogs. For Barni, we are searching for a loving, breed-experienced home with security, exciting walks, and many new opportunities for a life of safety and joy. On August 4, 2024, a volunteer Hungarian helper wrote: "Barni has lived in the animal shelter for six months. On the mentor day, she had the opportunity to go on an exciting and interesting walk with her mentor. She is a loving, friendly, people-oriented dog. According to her mentor, she is a real 'love bomb.' When they stopped during the walk, she wagged her tail and demanded to be spoiled. Barni enjoyed the attention and being taken care of. She also likes being stroked by children. Cats are not to her liking. Barni is waiting for a new owner where she can move in as part of the family. She needs a home with a laid-back training, regular daily walks, and playful movement. She is still young and wants to learn, gather experiences, and go to dog training classes. Barni should be guided with love and patience. She is clever and would do anything to please her new, permanent owner. Most of all, she wants to live safely, be cared for, and never be in that situation again. She wants to move into her final, safe home as quickly as possible. Good luck, dear Barni." July 15, 2025: Buster-6 and Barni are living in a new 2-person apartment and it’s going well. Who will show Barni how wonderful life can be? Barni is ready for travel. Many thanks to Michèle Gubler for taking over the sponsorship of Barni.

About Barni

What life with Barni looks like

Barni is a adult dog waiting at Animal Happyend in Animal Happyend.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Barni, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Barni?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Happyend handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Barni on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Barni if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Happyend will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Barni already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Barni isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Happyend early rather than rehoming privately; they know Barni and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
