Adopt Barsik

British Shorthair · Male · Senior · 12 years

I am Barsik, a clever, sensitive tomcat, seeking a very special home. Please read everything carefully before you request a match for me – because I am particular. I am people-oriented, curious, and always want to be involved – but on my terms. I roam around, am present, but not a classic lap cat. Physical contact only happens when I want it. I need routine and a regulated daily life, which gives me security. I adapt well to the animal shelter and am unobtrusive – I follow rules, if you also accept mine. I am quiet, even with visitors, and overall a pretty pleasant roommate. I love walks and extensive sunbathing. Other animals are generally okay, but I would prefer to have my own home. I am also quite clever and like food games or small changes in my environment. I also love small, cozy nests. Health-wise, I have coxarthrosis (hip arthritis), so higher jumps are a bit harder for me. I need a well-furnished apartment with climbing opportunities, high litter boxes, and pain medication. Here at the animal shelter, I am unobtrusive because the routines here and being accepted as I am help me. But I can also be ambivalent, which is why I have already returned from placements. However, my youth was not optimal for me – I was taken away from my mother too young and sold, and even after that, my husbandry was not beautiful for me. And so I learned to set my own boundaries. Stress, chaos, and pressure, none of that I like. I want space, routines, and acceptance, then I can be a great roommate. I wish for a quiet home with clear, confident people who bring patience and do not pressure me. Ideally in a rural setting with not too many people in the household. The adjustment should be taken seriously – I need time to settle in. It is important for me to have cat flap access so I can decide when to come and go. And of course, I also need enough quiet spots. For getting to know me, please plan several visits to the animal shelter. You want to meet me? Then fill out the request form below. I am sure: There is the right home for me too. This cat needs outdoor access.

About Barsik

What life with Barsik looks like

Barsik is a senior british shorthair cat waiting at Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg in Berlin.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Barsik, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Barsik?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Barsik on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Barsik if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Barsik already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Barsik isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Barsik and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
