Bartje

Male · Adult · 7 years

Bartje is a sensitive and special herder mix who has, by now, been at the shelter for almost 7 years – far too long for a dog who can be so loyal and loving. His start in life was anything but easy. Bartje was rescued, together with many other dogs, from a very difficult situation. Those experiences have left their mark, but with time, guidance, and therapy, Bartje has already made enormous progress, and he is still growing every day. Once he knows and trusts you, his friendship is unconditional. To the people he trusts, he is gentle, affectionate, and incredibly loyal. He is strongly attached to the people he knows and will always protect them. New situations and changes, however, make him insecure, so he can be somewhat reserved in his reactions. Bartje is therefore not a "ready-made" dog, but one who will need time and patience to feel at home. He is looking for an experienced owner with calm, a gentle yet clear approach. A quiet home, preferably outside the city, with few stimuli and without (young) children, would be ideal for him. A home where he can feel safe and where his pace is respected – that is where Bartje can truly blossom and show who he really is: a sweet, sensitive dog who wants nothing more than to belong.

NL·Show original

About Bartje

What life with Bartje looks like

Bartje is an adult dog waiting at ACE / SHIN (Animal Care Espana) in Spain.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee. Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bartje, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bartje?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ACE / SHIN (Animal Care Espana) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bartje on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bartje if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ACE / SHIN (Animal Care Espana) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Bartje already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bartje isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ACE / SHIN (Animal Care Espana) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bartje and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
