Adopt Bārts

Mixed Breed · Male

An eight-year-old BART is a sleek and handsome dog, a loud and convincing guard behind the fence. When it comes to close relationships with a stranger, he tends to be more cautious and timid. To put it simply, BART could be a prototype of the famous literary character who went to the Wizard of Oz to ask how he could get what he lacked most - courage. Courage and bravery. Just like the famous Cowardly Lion from "The Wizard of Oz," it turns out that BART also doesn't lack courage. There's only one thing - to be convinced of that, BART needs his person, his friend, whom he protects on their journey to the Emerald City. And this person, in turn, needs a little time to get used to BART and gain the warm trust he kindly gives to his own. All other descriptions are redundant because you can't and shouldn't get to know BART from a distance. Only through presence and touch. And then words are no longer needed. Come, come again and again - get to know, fall in love with his courageous heart, and take him home! P.S. The fact that love creates self-confidence is also proven by the life of BART's former neighbor Krešs - after seven years at the shelter, the shy, timid Krešiņš, loved and encouraged by his owners, has become a confident, proud family member who participates in all the activities of his owners' lives.

P.S. To, ka mīlestība rada pašpārliecību, apliecina arī Bārta kādreizējā kaimiņa Kreša dzīve – pēc septiņiem gadiem patversmē tramīgais, bailīgais Krešiņš, saimnieku lolots un iedrošināts, kļuvis par pašapzinīgu, lepnu ģimenes locekli, kurš piedalās visās saimnieku dzīves gaitās.

About Bārts

What life with Bārts looks like

Bārts is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Dzīvnieku patversme Ulubele in Latvia.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇱🇻Adopting from Latvia

Frequently asked

Adopting Bārts, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bārts?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dzīvnieku patversme Ulubele handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bārts on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bārts if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dzīvnieku patversme Ulubele will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bārts already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bārts isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dzīvnieku patversme Ulubele early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bārts and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (LV). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
