Adopt Bas

Jack Russell Terrier · Male · Senior · 9 years

Background This little dog is Basje. Bas is a male Jack Russell Terrier, born in April 2017. He came to us because his owner could no longer care for him due to medical reasons. Soon it became clear that Basje also had medical problems. We will mention these further in the text, but after a long period of stable care, his medical condition has also become stable! He is currently staying with a foster family where he is waiting calmly for his new home. Character Basje has a friendly character. He is affectionate and likes to be with his foster parents. He enjoys going for walks and walks well on a leash. He can do this for an hour with pleasure! He can be left alone for 4 hours and is then dry. Care Basje has a liver shunt. Because of this, he has special food and drinks a lot, which means he has to go to the toilet often. Therefore, he needs to go outside more often. He signals this well. If for some reason Basje cannot be watched, a pee pad is placed where he goes properly. Due to the liver shunt, he may show abnormal behavior and abnormal reactions to certain stimuli (such as the impression that he does not hear or see well). Therefore, he needs people with a golden heart who want to give him a good time and can cope with this. A cat flap or free access to the outside makes it naturally easier to deal with this problem. An apartment is not suitable for Bas. He sleeps through the night without incidents. And the incidents we are talking about are only urinations. In addition to the special food, he does not take any medication. His kidney values are checked annually. Placement Basje is looking for a home that can live with this. He enjoys the life he has now and we hope he can continue this for a while. He does not like other dogs and is therefore placed alone. He is not placed with cats. Older children who can give him space and peace can also meet him.

AchtergrondDit kleine kereltje is Basje.

About Bas

What life with Bas looks like

Bas is a small senior jack russell terrier dog waiting at Dierenasiel Sint-Truiden in Sint-Truiden.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇧🇪Adopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bas, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bas?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenasiel Sint-Truiden handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bas on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bas if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenasiel Sint-Truiden will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bas already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bas isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenasiel Sint-Truiden early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bas and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
