Adopt BASCO

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Young · 1 year

BASCO (M) 21 months - adoption via BorderLineCollie Characteristics Date of birth: 12/05/2022 Gender: Male Registered with LOF/LOSH/ISDS: No Disabilities: No Child compatibility: From adolescence Dog compatibility: Usually goes well. Cat compatibility: No Other compatibility: No Personality Basco is a young male Border Collie who is happy and kind, and is calm at home and listens well. The big problem for the owners is that Basco is extremely uncomfortable with physical touch, whether it's brushing, dental examination, checking the paws to see if they are painful, etc. Basco gives signals indicating he does not want physical contact, but when someone continues to brush him, for example, he attacks. This has already happened several times during a "physical check". Basco is therefore not a fan of the veterinarian. The trust between the owner and Basco has completely disappeared and in order to avoid an escalation, BorderLineCollie was asked to find Basco a more suitable home. Background Basco arrived at his owners' home at the age of 10 weeks. After only a few months, it became apparent that he had many difficulties with physical checks and required contacts. An animal behaviorist was called for this issue and appropriate exercises (such as with a brush) were suggested. This allowed some improvement, but when a second dog arrived in the house, the training sessions were not continued and Basco started behaving in the same way again. Basco can be left alone at home for a few hours and he likes car trips. He really enjoys pull and thinking games. During walks, he focuses on traffic. Basco successfully completed the puppy class and a follow-up class at the dog school. He has not been tested with sheep.

About BASCO

What life with BASCO looks like

BASCO is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Border Line Collie in borderlinecollie.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇫🇷Adopting from France

French refuges follow the SPA framework: adopters sign a cession contract that includes sterilization, vaccinations, microchip identification, and rabies passport. Fees are typically €150–€300. Many refuges work with rescue transport partners for cross-border placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting BASCO, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about BASCO?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Border Line Collie handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw BASCO on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt BASCO if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Border Line Collie will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is BASCO already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if BASCO isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Border Line Collie early rather than rehoming privately; they know BASCO and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
