Azir

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 5 years

History: Brought from another animal shelter to help and try to find a home. Information: He cohabits with all types of dogs at the animal shelter, but fits better with dogs of calm energy, as he doesn't like being bothered. He arrived very scared and has made significant progress, but the person who adopts him will have to be patient with him at first. With people he doesn't know, he is fearful, with women there is some distrust, but he approaches, takes treats, lets you pet him although he hasn't quite finished enjoying it yet. He is much more fearful of men, so it takes him longer to gain their trust. He usually has quite a calm energy. He likes going for walks and does well on a leash, doesn't pull at all, although some things may still scare him a bit. The best possible place to adopt your dog. I adopted 2 from when I first met the animal shelter and it's the best decision I could have made. About Azir

What life with Azir looks like

Azir is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Refugio Internacional para Animales in Valle de La Orotava, Tenerife.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Azir, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Azir?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Refugio Internacional para Animales handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Azir on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Azir if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Refugio Internacional para Animales will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Azir already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Azir isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Refugio Internacional para Animales early rather than rehoming privately; they know Azir and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ES). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
