Adopt Basco

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Basco, Australian Shepherd, born around 2021, came to us because his owners could no longer cope with him. What he probably lacked was rules and a clear framework within which he could move. If he gets that, he is a great dog! Basco goes well on a leash, does not argue with other dogs, and is therefore a popular companion among our dog walkers. However, despite this, he, and we do not want to hide this, has some minor quirks. These make him unsuitable for beginner dogs or families with small children. Basco has learned to become quite irritable when something really doesn't suit him. He apparently had success with this strategy in his early years and has stuck with it. The good thing is: he is trainable and wants to cooperate with people and be liked. So, he was not at all pleased at the beginning to wear a harness. In the meantime, he has gotten used to it and only grumbles a little now. Nevertheless, a muzzle is still necessary at the beginning in some situations with Basco, such as when brushing. This is not really his favorite activity. We would have to test the compatibility with other animals and other creatures on a case-by-case basis. We see Basco with experienced dog owners (children should already be in their teenage years), who have the desire and time to devote themselves to the great dog and simultaneously give him well-meaning clear rules and a framework for action. Anyone interested in our great Basco can contact us with a callback number. We then arrange a meet-and-greet appointment.

-25 { margin: auto; } -25 -25 img { border: 2px solid ; } -25 /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */

About Basco

What life with Basco looks like

Basco is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Pirmasens in Pirmasens.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Basco, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Basco?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Pirmasens handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Basco on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Basco if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Pirmasens will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Basco already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Basco isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Pirmasens early rather than rehoming privately; they know Basco and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
