Bay

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 16 years

by Kennels | Jun 27, 2026 | Dogs, Liverpool, Male, Dogs, Liverpool, Long Stay Dog, Male, Seniors ***** WE ARE LOOKING FOR A FOREVER FOSTER HOME ***** THIS WOULD NEED TO BE CLOSE TO THE RESCUE AS HE WOULD NEED TO RETURN FOR REGULAR VET CHECKS AND MEDICIATION. WE WILL CONSIDER HOMES FURTHER AFIELD IF YOU ARE HAPPY TO TRAVEL BACK AND FORTH TO THE RESCUE. We are looking for a foster rather than adoption as we realise that caring for an elderly dog can get a little costly and we wouldn’t want to put off any potential person due to vet fees. However, if you don’t feel that additional costs would be an issue, then we would still consider a permanent home for Bay. This adorable senior citizen originally came into our care in March 2023 with his partner in crime Pixie. Their owner was devastated to be giving them up but was sadly going into palliative care. This dynamic duo were rehomed several times but were always returned for the same reason, Bay being a little reactive to other dogs. As time went on, Pixie started to have a few health issues and was unfortunately diagnosed with cancer. Just over a year after being in our care, we had to say goodbye to Pixie. Bay was present when Pixie passed and this helped him to come to terms with losing his lifelong friend. When Bay found himself alone, we weren’t sure how he would cope with kennel life without his beloved Pixie. We were very concerned as to how Bay would adapt, so we made the decision to find him a foster home. Unfortunately, Bay has recently found himself back at the rescue and we are now looking for a permanent retirement home where Bay can live out his twilight years. He is 16 this year but still a bundle of joy. This mature gentleman is a little cuddle monster and still loves going on walks. He loves his food and treats as well. As he still isn’t a fan of other dogs, he would need his new home to be pet free. Although he does sometimes bark at other dogs, this is manageable. He has been around children but due to his age we feel he would be better suited to a quieter household with older children. Exclusive merchandise available direct from the rescue. About Bay

What life with Bay looks like

Bay is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at Freshfields Animal Rescue in Liverpool.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bay, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bay?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Freshfields Animal Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bay on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bay if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Freshfields Animal Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bay already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bay isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Freshfields Animal Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bay and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
