Bella & Poppy

Chihuahua · Female · Adult · 7 years

Bella & Poppy are a looking for a home together, they are looking for a calm and relaxed home with adopters who take them on leisurely strolls followed by a cuddle and a quiet snooze on the sofa. They can live with secondary school aged children who will let them approach on their terms, who will play with them nicely and will understand when they need a break and give them space to relax and rest when needed. Bella & Poppy will be going home together, they would like to be the only pets in the home so they can have all of the attention to themselves, although they could have calm and polite walking buddies. They have some training under their belt, they know their names and know “down”, “stay” and “bed”, they aren’t super interested in engaging in training any further but may be enticed with the help of tasty treat. Bella & Poppy can settle in the home as long as they are together, so could be left for up to 4 hours, this would need to be built up gradually after they have had time to settle into their new home. Bella & Poppy are both on daily medication and they will need to meet their adopters a few times prior to going home so please bear this in mind when applying. Meet Bella the 7 year old Long coat Chihuahua and Poppy the 8 and a half year old Smooth coat Chihuahua. This sweet little pair on the sniff for their new family. They don’t really have any interest in toys, preferring to play with each other and go on sniffy strolls before snuggling up together in their bed for snuggly snoozes, Poppy takes a little longer to get to know you, Bella being the more confident of the two, but they both like cuddles they will happily sit next to you on in your lap for gentle fusses. They will be your shadows, following you around the house and just keeping an eye on what you’re up to. This lovely pair are looking for a new family now.

About Bella & Poppy

What life with Bella & Poppy looks like

Bella & Poppy is a adult chihuahua dog waiting at Dogs Trust Canterbury in Chestfield.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bella & Poppy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bella & Poppy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Canterbury handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bella & Poppy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bella & Poppy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Canterbury will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bella & Poppy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bella & Poppy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Canterbury early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bella & Poppy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
