Bella

Belgian Malinois · Female · Young · 2 years

Bella is a Belgian female German Shepherd, born around 2024, and has been at the animal shelter since February 2026. Not much is known about Bella's past. She came to the animal shelter due to a death in the family and appears not to have learned much in her previous life. Generally, she is a friendly female dog, but lacks basic obedience and leash manners. At the animal shelter, she was under constant stress, leading to significant weight loss. Therefore, since April, Bella has been living in a foster home, where she coexists peacefully with two dogs and a cat. In a home environment, she behaves exceptionally respectfully and settles down well. Currently, she still cannot be left alone, and this skill may need to be built up very gradually over an extended period. Outside, she quickly becomes overwhelmed by her surroundings and gets stressed. As a result, walks are currently only possible with severe limitations. When exposed to movement stimuli, she barks aggressively on the leash. If corrected during these incidents, she often displays threatening behavior toward humans (growling, showing teeth, threatening body language). Therefore, she always wears a muzzle outdoors. The current training focus is therefore on building orientation and recall in low-distraction environments, and here she has shown enormous progress in a very short time. Leash manners are also being worked on and are steadily improving bit by bit. We are looking for people for Bella who have experience handling "problem dogs" and can provide her with the necessary guidance and consistency without overwhelming her. Ideally, she should live with other confident dogs in her future home. She will not be rehomed to households with children.

About Bella

What life with Bella looks like

Bella is a young adult belgian malinois dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Düren und Umgebung in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bella, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bella?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Düren und Umgebung handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bella on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bella if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Düren und Umgebung will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bella already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bella isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Düren und Umgebung early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bella and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
