Adopt Belluno: le feci dei cani nei nuovi cassonetti

The dog's feces are completely compostable. They can also be disposed of in the household toilet, although this wastes a lot of water. However, when in public places and - as the law and civic sense require - one collects the dog's feces in a biodegradable bag, the problem can become serious, because municipalities, in order to keep management costs down, tend to remove waste bins and almost no one installs dog toilets, which combine the waste bin with the dispenser for bags. The municipality of Belluno is no exception, and many dog owners take the bag home with them after carrying it for kilometers. Obviously, there is also a minority of ill-mannered people in the main town who throw the bag in the hedges or leave it on display on the walls, or even fail to collect the feces at all, causing the justified resentment of many citizens who, in the end - wrongly themselves - end up hating dogs, while they should report the owners! From this month, however, things have changed, because there is a new opportunity available throughout the entire municipal territory: the new multi-user dry waste containers. In fact, Bellunum - the public capital company responsible for waste collection in the main town - has almost finished replacing the old dry waste containers that opened with a key with the new containers that open with a magnetic card, which are currently being distributed to citizens. But the novelty that interests us is another one: next to the slot for inserting the bags, there is also a hole for free disposal - that is, without a card - of small non-recyclable waste, including therefore also the bags containing the dog's feces. Moreover, an adhesive next to the hole explicitly indicates this possibility, which, given the widespread presence of street containers, represents an intelligent solution by the administration to the need to preserve the appearance of streets and squares. To discourage the abandonment of feces in the environment, another good argument could be, as always, health! A medium-sized dog produces about 18 kg of feces per year, with a high incidence of parasites: not collecting your dog's feces is not only an uncivilized behavior punished with administrative fines, but it is also an omission that puts the health of other dogs and animals wandering around the city, as well as our health and that of our children, at risk, since the feces degrade until they become dust of m...which we breathe while walking on the street!

Le feci del cane sono del tutto compostabili. Possono essere anche smaltite nel vaso sanitario di casa, anche se in questo modo si spreca molta acqua. Ma quando si è in un luogo pubblico e – come impone la legge e il senso civico – si raccoglie con un sacchetto biodegradabile la deiezione del cane, il problema può diventare serio, perchè i comuni, per contenere le spese di gestione, tendono ad eliminare i cestini per la raccolta dei rifiuti e quasi nessuno installa nei parchi o nelle vie i dog toilet, che abbinano il cesto di raccolta al dispenser dei sacchetti. Anche il comune di Belluno non fa eccezione e molti possessori di cani si portano a casa il sacchetto con le feci dopo averlo tenuto in mano per kilometri. Ovviamente, non manca neppure nel comune capoluogo una minoranza di maleducati che getta il sacchetto in mezzo alle siepi o lo lascia in bella mostra sui muretti o che addirittura non raccoglie proprio le deiezioni, provocando il giusto risentimento di tanti cittadini che, alla fine – sbagliando a loro volta – finiscono con l'odiare i cani, mentre dovrebbero denunciare i proprietari! Da questo mese, però, le cose sono cambiate, perchè c'è una nuova opportunità, disponibile in tutto il territorio comunale: i nuovi contenitori stradali multiutenza per il conferimento del residuo secco non riciclabile. Infatti, Bellunum – la società a capitale pubblico che si occupa di raccolta dei rifiuti nel capoluogo – ha quasi finito di sostituire i vecchi contenitori stradali del secco che si aprivano con la chiavetta con i nuovi contenitori che si aprono con tessera magnetica, in corso di distribuzione ai cittadini. Ma la novità che ci interessa è un'altra: a fianco dello sportello per inserire i sacchetti c'è, infatti, un foro per il conferimento libero – cioè senza tessera – di rifiuti non riciclabili di piccola dimensione, tra cui quindi anche i sacchetti contenenti le deiezioni del cane. Tra l'altro, un adesivo a fianco del foro indica proprio espressamente questa possibilità, che, vista la diffusione dei contenitori stradali, rappresenta perciò una risposta intelligente dell'amministrazione all'esigenza di salvaguardare il decoro delle vie e delle piazze. Per disincentivare l'abbandono delle feci nell'ambiente, un altro buon argomento potrebbe essere, come sempre, la salute! Un cane di media taglia produce mediamente in un anno circa 18 kg di feci, con un'alta incidenza di parassiti: non raccogliere le deiezioni del proprio cane, oltre che essere perciò un comportamento incivile punito con sanzioni amministrative, è un'omissione che mette a rischio la salute degli altri cani e animali che girano per la città, ma anche la nostra salute e quella dei nostri figli dato che le feci si degradano fino a diventare polvere di m….che respiriamo passeggiando per strada!
