Ben

German Shepherd Β· Male Β· Senior Β· 9 years

🐾 Say hello to Ben, our 9-year-old German Shepherd! 🐾 Meet the lovely Ben! This handsome older gentleman has been spending some time in a foster home, giving us the chance to learn more about his personality and how he settles into home life. It took Ben a couple of days to come out of his shell and feel comfortable in his new surroundings, but since then, he’s been getting better and better every day! πŸ₯° His fosterer has seen his confidence grow, and it’s lovely to see him slowly settling in and showing us more of who he is. As an older boy, Ben does have some medical needs. He has hip dysplasia and is currently on medication to help manage this. He also enjoys shorter walks to make sure he doesn’t overdo things and stays as comfortable as possible. 🐾 Ben will need a home that understands his needs, is happy to take things at his pace and will give him the love, care and comfort he deserves in his golden years. Our fantastic vet team will be on hand to support adopters, offer advice and explain his current medication, so you won’t be on your own when it comes to caring for him. ❀️

About Ben

What life with Ben looks like

Ben is a medium-sized senior german shepherd dog waiting at RSPCA Danaher Animal Home in Braintree.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ben, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ben?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. RSPCA Danaher Animal Home handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ben on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ben if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” RSPCA Danaher Animal Home will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Ben already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ben isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with RSPCA Danaher Animal Home early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ben and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
