Ben

Labrador Retriever Β· Male Β· Puppy Β· 18 months

🐾 BEFORE YOU APPLY FOR BEN, PLEASE READ ABOUT HIS REQUIREMENTS 🐾 Ben is a lovely Labrador X who is looking for a very special home, being a Labrador we are sure he will get a fair bit of interest and we want to make sure his future family is fully prepared for what he needs. ❀️ Ben is a boy who lacks confidence, particularly when meeting new people. Because of this, he will need an adopter who is patient, understanding and willing to put the time into building his trust. He won't be a dog who can simply meet you once and head home. Several meets will be needed before Ben is ready to leave us, allowing him to get to know you and feel comfortable in your presence. The good news is that Ben is great with other dogs! 🐢 He really enjoys canine company, and we'd love to find him a suitable doggy companion in his new home β€” ideally a female dog who can help give him confidence and provide some companionship. Ben came into our care as a stray, so unfortunately we have no history of his life before arriving with us. We don't know what he has experienced or what he may have been through, and therefore we can't predict exactly how he will respond to every situation once he is in a home environment. His new family will need to understand this and be prepared to take things at his pace.

About Ben

What life with Ben looks like

Ben is a medium-sized puppy/kitten labrador retriever dog waiting at RSPCA Danaher Animal Home in Braintree.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window β€” house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ben, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ben?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. RSPCA Danaher Animal Home handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ben on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ben if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” RSPCA Danaher Animal Home will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ben already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ben isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with RSPCA Danaher Animal Home early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ben and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
