Ben

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 8 years

Ben is a large mixed-breed male dog, likely born in 2018, who was found roaming with Enzo and brought to the animal shelter of our Hungarian partner organization. The two have probably lived together, like each other very much, and would be happy to move to a new home together. They will be neutered before adoption. Ben is a friendly dog with a calm nature. He enjoys being petted, likes leisurely walks, and values a soft spot to rest peacefully. He is loyal to his caregivers, very attached to them, and enjoys all activities they do together. He is very teachable and easy to motivate. He would be a nice family dog, but children should be at least teenagers. Ben gets along well with female dogs, but his compatibility with other males depends on their personalities. We recommend him as a second dog only to a female. His behavior towards cats is unknown. He wants loving and confident people who have enough free time to spend with him, live in a rural area in a house with a garden, and already have experience with dog ownership. The male has a shoulder height of 70 cm and weighs 38 kg.

HU·Show original

About Ben

What life with Ben looks like

Ben is a extra-large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Animal Care Hungary.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇭🇺Adopting from Hungary

Hungarian shelters operate at high capacity given the country's stray population. Animals leave sterilized, chipped, and with a passport. Many shelters coordinate transport to Germany, Austria, and the Nordics.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ben, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ben?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Care Hungary handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ben on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ben if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Care Hungary will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ben already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ben isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Care Hungary early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ben and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (HU). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
