adoption requirements adoption process Now adopt this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Ben has found a home! His story: Ben arrived in August at his foster home and settled in wonderfully, showing himself to be a lovable, friendly male dog who is very attached to his people. Ben is still very food-oriented and one should be careful not to leave anything edible lying around, because he will steal anything he can get his paws on (including cat food). But that has improved significantly. He is almost house-trained, very clingy and cuddly. He walks well on a leash and gets along super with other animals. He greets visitors warmly. He also gets along well with the cats in the household. Ben is around 4 years old and is about 65 cm tall. We are looking for the perfect place for him in his permanent home. Due to his size, a garden would be desirable. Ben is looking forward to extended nature walks and other activities that will mentally stimulate him. Additionally, he would probably not object to a visit to the dog training classes, which should work with positive reinforcement. Originally from Shelter Bistrita, Ben must have experienced some tough times. His legs were covered in wounds, which were likely from bites by other dogs. But still, he was one of the most gentle dogs in the entire shelter. Ben will be neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas in his new home, and his EU pet passport is also in his luggage. Against an adoption fee of 500 Euro, can you still make room in your home and heart for Ben? We thank Rita M. for the name sponsorship. This clears the way for Ben to have a better future. A big thank you also goes to Nicole J., Alexandra L., and Annina D., who all took on a monthly sponsorship for Ben each. As of: 03.02.

Stand: 03.02.2025

About Ben

What life with Ben looks like

Ben is a extra-large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ben, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ben?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ben on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ben if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ben already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ben isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ben and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
