Bendżi

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 8 years

Benji came to our shelter as a stray dog from the commune of Czerwonak. When he first arrived, he was just a shadow of his former self—extremely thin, with bald patches on his body and an overwhelming fear of humans. He wouldn’t let anyone get close to him, and it took many weeks of patience, calmness, and consistent reassurance for him to begin trusting us again—and to realize that the world no longer had to be scary. Today, Benji is a completely different dog. It’s as if he’s determined to make up for all the time he’d lost. He loves human company, and nothing brings him greater joy than visits from people he already knows. Once he trusts someone, he does so with all his canine heart. He’s sensitive, devoted, and deeply craving closeness. He’s a very approachable and friendly guy. Occasionally, he still feels shy around some new people, but these moments are becoming increasingly rare. With each passing day, he gains more confidence and boldly shows just how wonderful a dog he truly is. Benji is looking for a home that can give him what he once lacked—the sense of security, patience, and love he so desperately needs. In return, he’ll give you everything he has. If you give him a chance, you’ll gain a loyal friend who already knows that humans can be kind. Could it be you who shows Benji what a real home really means?

PL·Show original

Dziś Benji to zupełnie inny pies. Jakby postanowił nadrobić cały stracony czas. Uwielbia kontakt z człowiekiem, a największą radość sprawiają mu odwiedziny osób, które już zna. Gdy komuś zaufa, robi to całym swoim psim sercem. Jest czuły, oddany i bardzo spragniony bliskości. To kontaktowy i przyjazny chłopak.

About Bendżi

What life with Bendżi looks like

Bendżi is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko Skałowo in Poland.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bendżi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bendżi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Skałowo handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bendżi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bendżi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Skałowo will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bendżi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bendżi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Skałowo early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bendżi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
