Benji

Dachshund · Male · Adult · 4 years

Meet Benji, our sweet little Daxi lad. Benji’s favourite thing is to sit on someone’s laps for a fuss. He can be hesitant around new people, but it does not take him long to warm up and show his loving and affectionate nature. When meeting him, we recommend letting him come over to you in his own time and offering some tasty treats to win him round. Benji is reactive to other dogs when he is on lead. This is very typical of the breed as any seasoned Dachshund owners can attest! We think that Benji would prefer to be the only dog in the home but would benefit from some regular walking buddies. Once he has had a quick sniff of another dog, he will then be fairly independent and trot off to do his own thing. Benji did previously live with cats so he could possibly live with a dog savvy cat with careful introductions. He is looking for a new home that is away from the inner city where he can have access to quieter walking routes. If you are looking for a cuddle buddy to keep you company, Benji may just be the dog for you. If you have already completed our online rehoming form and would like to know more about Benji, you can e-mail our rehoming team on to register your interest. ch for the dog you have contacted us about

About Benji

What life with Benji looks like

Benji is a small adult dachshund dog waiting at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home in London.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Benji, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Benji?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Battersea Dogs & Cats Home handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Benji on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Benji if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Battersea Dogs & Cats Home will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Benji already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Benji isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Battersea Dogs & Cats Home early rather than rehoming privately; they know Benji and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
