Benji

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 6 years

Benji, a male Briard, born in 2020, has been a surrendered animal since July 14, 2026. He is neutered and has a hormone chip. He has been at the shelter for 14 days. Benji was surrendered due to personal circumstances. He is a sensitive, friendly, and intelligent giant in his prime, initially appearing somewhat uncertain and reserved, but becomes very attached to people he trusts. He is sociable and enjoys attention, finding the shelter situation very difficult and yearning for a permanent home. Rassetypically, Benji has a strong independent work drive and vigilance, which should be considered in his exercise and daily life. He generally has good human interaction and socialization. Benji needs a home that provides him with much love, sets clear structures, and enjoys his sensitive, loyal, and intelligent nature. Ideally, he would have a home with experience with Briards or similar breeds (e.g., Old English Sheepdog, Bearded Collie, Sennenhund, Maremmano,…). Benji is compatible with female dogs, but his compatibility with intact males depends on their individual personalities. He is familiar with living with cats from his previous home, so a harmonious integration is possible. Children are possible in the household, but they should already have good dog sense and be somewhat older. There should not be too much commotion in everyday life. Benji walks well on a leash, orienting himself towards the person and enjoying joint activities. He is house-trained, drives well in the car, and is used to being alone, but prefers to be in dog company. It is essential to pay attention to regular and thorough grooming. We wish Benji to find a loving home that understands and appreciates the breed and gives him a wonderful place for life! (As of August 19, 2026) (Click on the pictures to see them in full size!) The description reflects the current situation, but we reserve the right to make changes or reassessments. It is always possible that an animal may behave or develop differently due to changing circumstances, both here at the shelter and in a new home.

Old English Sheepdog, Bearded Collie, Sennenhund, Maremmano,…) mitbringt. About Benji

What life with Benji looks like

Benji is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Marburg in Marburg.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Benji, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Benji?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Marburg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Benji on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Benji if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Marburg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Benji already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Benji isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Marburg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Benji and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
