adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Our Benno has found a home! His story: The beautiful, cream-white Benno, with the long fur, is approximately 5.5 years old and is eagerly waiting for his favorite people. He was found by an animal rescuer in Romania after being left near her house. At 20 kg and a shoulder height of approximately 56 cm, he is a medium-sized dog with an even bigger heart. Active and lively, Benno is happiest when in the company of people and can explore the world outside. He is a true explorer and enjoys walking on a leash, even though he can sometimes be a bit impatient here. Benno loves being stroked and clearly enjoys every affectionate touch. A fun quirk about Benno is that he "speaks" when being fed. Excited and full of anticipation, he then chats away. Whether he gets along with cats has not been tested, but he gets along well with other dogs. We are not sure what his breed mix looks like, but based on his appearance, it can be assumed that he carries herding dog genes. Herding dogs are independent personalities that require the owner to have consistency and empathy and the ability to engage with an intelligent, independent acting dog. They bring many great qualities but are not command receivers like, for example, retrievers. People who have already had experience with herding dogs want no other breeds, as they are very loyal and faithful companions. They have a very calm and gentle nature but are also very vigilant. Benno is a dog that seeks an active life full of adventures and challenges. He would be the perfect companion for people who like to be outdoors and are ready to give him the love and security he deserves. Many thanks to Svenja A.! You have given Benno his name and thus his identity! Date: 10.03. This animal is vaccinated. This animal is microchipped.

Vielen Dank Svenja A.! Stand: 10.03.2024

About Benno

What life with Benno looks like

Benno is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Benno, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Benno?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Benno on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Benno if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Benno already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Benno isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Benno and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
