Adopt Benny

Male

Name: Benny – the Spunky One Breed: Appenzeller Sennenhund Color: tricolor Date of Birth: 29.09.2022 Gender: male Neutered: yes Traits: Dear dog lovers, I am Benny (19 kg/ SH: 47cm) and to give a brief introduction, I am an Appenzeller Sennenhund as described in the book. So, if you are looking for a sturdy, incredibly athletic, and demanding dog, get in touch! I came to the Berner Tierzentrum because my previous owner was very overwhelmed with me and unfortunately, some incidents occurred, which is why I urgently needed to move on. Generally, I am a very eager-to-learn, motivated, and clever dog who wants to please my people, but I also have a strong will of my own and in the past, I have learned to assert it with my teeth. As a true hunting dog, I tend to get quite excited and hectic quickly and require very clear rules and boundaries with people who have a lot of dog experience. In my previous life, I never learned to handle frustration, but I am currently learning a lot here at the animal shelter and doing an extremely good job. I definitely have a strong prey drive, so there should be no cats or small pets in my new home. However, I can be on a loose leash while hiking, and it is more important for me to be with my people! Due to major problems with children in the past, they should not be in my immediate vicinity. I, however, ride in the car very well and am also a great companion on walks and during joint jogging, with excellent obedience and always being motivated. I generally get along well with other animals, but as a young male dog, I like to test my limits and sometimes need to prove myself. Since I have never had to stay alone in the house before, this should not be necessary at least initially in my new home, although it is certainly possible that I could live well as a second dog. Are you ready for my energetic, loud, and demanding nature? Then I am sure we will make a great team. Please fill out the application form for that. I look forward to meeting you. – Your Benny Country of Origin (where the dog is currently located): Switzerland Breeding Location:

About Benny

What life with Benny looks like

Benny is a medium-sized adult dog waiting at Berner Tierzentrum in Switzerland.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Benny, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Benny?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Berner Tierzentrum handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Benny on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Benny if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Berner Tierzentrum will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Benny already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Benny isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Berner Tierzentrum early rather than rehoming privately; they know Benny and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
