Benny

Labrador Retriever · Male · Adult · 8 years

Sensitive character head seeks experienced people with patience and heart. I am Benny, a handsome mixed-breed male dog with a past—and a big wish: to finally find a home. I've already been in several homes, and last time I didn't get along with the other dog in the household and also snapped at my owner in a difficult moment. That's why I'm really looking for dog-experienced people now who won't underestimate me but are ready to invest time, patience, and clarity into our relationship. What sets me apart: I am house-trained, know basic commands, and travel easily by car, bus, and train. I'm a big fan of head work and food search games—during which I show how skilled I can be. I love walks and have made good progress with my regular walk leaders. I've built trust with them, ask for cuddles, and enjoy the shared time. With clear and sovereign leadership, I can now pass by other dogs calmly. With female dogs, I'm often a bit more charming—under guidance, a joint introduction works well. What still needs work with me: I tend to have surprise reactions under stress and need people who can handle such situations sensitively. I wear a muzzle outside—this is an important safety measure and normal for me. I defend resources—this should be kept in mind during the adjustment period. Being alone is hard for me and needs to be built up slowly in the new home. With other male dogs, distance is important; otherwise, I can become explosive—here, further good leadership is needed. If I'm unsure and lack clear orientation, leash aggression can occur. What I'm looking for: A quiet home without children, ideally with a fenced yard. People with dog experience, clarity, and patience who are ready to get to know me at the animal shelter and build trust gradually. A structured daily routine with clear rules and loving consequences. People who are eager to continue working on my development—also in good dog training classes. Mental stimulation for head and nose—I'm clever and want to be challenged. If you believe we would be a good match, please contact my caretakers at the Lassie House at 030 76 888-220 or fill out the request form. For trust building, several get-to-know-you sessions are needed—so we can both have a good start!

About Benny

What life with Benny looks like

Benny is a large adult labrador retriever dog waiting at Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg in Berlin.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Resource guarding, requires muzzle outdoors, difficulty being alone, stress-related behavioral issues, needs gradual introduction to new situations

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Benny, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Benny?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Benny on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Benny if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Benny already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Benny isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Benny and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
