Holly

Labrador Retriever · Female · Adult · 7 years

Breed: Labrador Retriever Birthday: 12.09.2019 Size / Weight: approx. 50cm / 25 kilo In the animal shelter since: February 2022 Our Holly is an impressive female dog – confident, sovereign, and full of joy. The neutered Labrador lady knows exactly what she wants (and what she doesn’t), and she seeks people who can lead with clear, calm guidance and experience by her side. Holly shows herself at the shelter as a friendly and open female dog who enjoys interacting with her people and loves spending time with them. She is cuddly and enjoys affection – but only on her terms. Our Holly is a beautiful, neutered Labrador female dog who knows exactly what she wants. Holly is happy to be petted and cuddled, as long as she can control the situation. Things like drying, brushing, or veterinary examinations, however, are not at all to her liking – and she makes that very clear, which is why she always wears a muzzle when necessary. Due to her sovereign nature, Holly gets along well with other dogs but is also quite controlling and therefore does not necessarily need another fellow animal at home. She would most like to enjoy the full attention of her people. Cats should also not live in her new home, and children are also not suitable for Holly – she wishes for a stable environment with experienced adults who understand and respect her. When it comes to food, Holly shows resource defense, especially with treats. With clear management and enough distance, however, this is well controllable. Holly seeks dog-experienced people who meet her with loving but consistent care and respect her boundaries. She is smart and very eager to learn and well oriented towards people. Those who take her on will get a loyal, character-strong partner who will give her heart to "her" people. Holly is not a beginner’s dog – but for the right people, she will be an absolute stroke of luck.

About Holly

What life with Holly looks like

Holly is a adult labrador retriever dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Pfungstadt und Umgebung e.V in Pfungstadt.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Holly, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Holly?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Pfungstadt und Umgebung e.V handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Holly on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Holly if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Pfungstadt und Umgebung e.V will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Holly already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Holly isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Pfungstadt und Umgebung e.V early rather than rehoming privately; they know Holly and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
