Bento

Male · Adult · 5 years

Hi! I’m Bento, and I initially came to the shelter through a foundation. From that foundation, I was rehomed several times—but unfortunately, without success. By now, I’m almost six years old. I don’t feel at home in a house located in an ordinary residential neighborhood. I have a clear background as a herding dog, so it’s no surprise that I guard my territory with great dedication. However, I’ve now learned to be somewhat of a house dog, so I don’t always have to live outside. Actually, I’m not really a fan of rain (don’t tell anyone—I know it’s not very cool), so I’d love to have a nice, dry spot where I can lie down. Going for walks isn’t exactly my favorite pastime; I’d rather check out the fence around my property at my own pace. I’ve participated in Dutch Cell Dogs, and there they discovered that I’m actually quite eager to learn. I don’t always show it, but I do enjoy learning new things from my owner every now and then. I’m used to farm animals, but I’d prefer living without other dogs. I also don’t like sharing my home with children—not because kids aren’t okay, but because they always end up bringing friends over, and that’s where the problem lies. I’d rather stick to my own people and keep the rest of humanity nicely at arm’s length. Are you interested in getting to know me? Then please get in touch with my current caregivers by sending an email—including your phone number—so they can reach out to you.

Hoi!

About Bento

What life with Bento looks like

Bento is a adult dog waiting at Dierenasiel Crailo in Hilversum.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bento, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bento?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenasiel Crailo handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bento on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bento if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenasiel Crailo will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bento already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bento isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenasiel Crailo early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bento and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
