Berek

Male · Adult · 4 years

Berek is a sensitive dog who is gradually opening up more and more to people day by day. At first, he was very uncertain and easily agitated, but today he’s becoming increasingly confident in making contact—greeting familiar people with joy and consciously seeking interaction more and more, though he still needs time to feel safe. Berek needs an owner who will respect his personal space and understand that trust builds gradually. He feels most comfortable around calm, easygoing individuals who give him the freedom to withdraw when he needs to. In such an environment, he shows his best qualities: he’s attentive, eager to cooperate, and beautifully focused on his handler. Currently, we’re working on walking him on a loose leash, as his emotions can still sometimes carry him forward too quickly; however, his excellent recall greatly assists us in our training. Berek also loves carrying a toy around—it has a calming effect on him and boosts his confidence. He’s a dog who would thrive with someone who’s ready to guide him wisely, balancing his spirited nature with his sensitive side. With the right approach, he can open up beautifully to people and build a genuine, meaningful relationship with them.

PL·Show original

About Berek

What life with Berek looks like

Berek is a medium-sized adult dog waiting at Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu in Poznan.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Berek, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Berek?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Berek on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Berek if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Berek already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Berek isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Berek and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
