Adopt Berek

Mixed Breed · Male

Sensitivity: Berek is a sensitive dog who gradually becomes more open to people every day. At first, he was very unsure and easily got excited, but now he is more courageous in making contact — greets familiar people with joy and is becoming more aware of seeking interaction, although he still needs time to feel safe. Berek needs a caregiver who respects his space and understands that trust is built gradually. He feels best with calm, clear people who give him the opportunity to withdraw when needed. In such conditions he shows his best sides — he is attentive, willing to cooperate, and beautifully focused on the handler. We are currently working on walking him on a loose leash, because emotions can still carry him forward, but his good recall greatly helps in the work. Berek also loves to carry a toy, which has a calming effect on him and adds to his confidence. This is a dog who will do well with someone ready to wisely guide a dog with a temperament, but also with a sensitive side. With the right approach, he can beautifully open up to a person and create a real, valuable relationship.

About Berek

What life with Berek looks like

Berek is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu in Poznan.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Berek, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Berek?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Berek on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Berek if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Berek already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Berek isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Berek and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
