Berengar

Male · Adult · 4 years

Native Country: Hungary The beautiful Berengar, since January 10, 2025, has been living at our shelter. He was found wandering alone in Kecskemét and reported to the animal shelter. No microchip, no one missed him. He doesn’t have a spectacular story, but he waits just as hopefully as all the other dogs at our shelter for his new people who will show him the sunny sides of life and be a loyal friend to him. Our fingers are crossed. Berengar is a wonderful dog who has a lot of catch-up to do and wants to finally lead a dog-friendly life. He is a very friendly, kind, and open-minded four-legged friend and enjoys being spoiled with cuddles and attention, unfortunately, the time at the animal shelter is always too tight. Berengar needs a lot of love and affection. He is a smart dog and his new people should be happy to teach him a few more things, because Berengar knows nothing of the dog ABC, but he already does a great job on the leash, although there is still room for improvement. We are sure that Berengar will be happy and eager to practice with his two-leggeds and will quickly make up for lost time. He will be looking forward to lots of quality time and wonderful experiences with his family. He gets along well with his fellow animals and is currently (February 18, 2025) being integrated into a pack. For our charming Berengar, we are looking for enthusiastic dog lovers who will love, value, and respect him and enjoy being outdoors. Loving people who will make up for what Berengar has missed and show him what it feels like to have a caring home, a personal food bowl, a soft bed, and people who will spoil him with many cuddles, exciting walks, dog-friendly mental stimulation, clear guidance, and full family integration. On December 27, 2025, a voluntary, Hungarian helper wrote: "Berengar came into the care of the animal shelter at the beginning of January 2025. In December, he had the opportunity to go for a walk with his mentor at the mentor day. Berengar was led out of his pen, given a collar, and leash. As soon as he and his mentor were out on the street, he immediately demanded cuddles and affection. A close friendship quickly developed between him and his mentor. Berengar is a sweet, friendly, and very people-oriented dog. He is cuddly, gives kisses, and would have preferred to crawl right onto his mentor’s lap. He was also very friendly to the other mentors they met on the way. During the walk, he was overjoyed and beaming with happiness. He started the walk actively and with great enthusiasm. On the leash, he ran beautifully and enjoyed sniffing, moving, and gathering many new impressions. Berengar is interested and smart and paid attention to his mentor’s signals during the walk. They met several dogs, but he showed no special interest in them. For Berengar, the human is first. In his new family, he needs a lot of mental stimulation, affection, daily walks, and enough exercise. He is very clingy, grateful, and a thoroughly good dog. According to his data sheet, Berengar is compatible with other dogs." Whose heart may Berengar give? Berengar is ready to travel. On January 13, 2026, Berengar is 33.2 kg and 65 cm. Medical update from March 2, 2026: Berengar has successfully completed his flea treatment, and the control test was now negative. A big thank you to Caro Wagner for her support in the form of a sponsorship for Berengar.

About Berengar

What life with Berengar looks like

Berengar is a adult dog waiting at Animal Happyend in Animal Happyend.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Berengar, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Berengar?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Happyend handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Berengar on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Berengar if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Happyend will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Berengar already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Berengar isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Happyend early rather than rehoming privately; they know Berengar and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
