Berta

Mixed Breed · Male

I'm Berta, a big biscuit-colored female dog born in 2016. I was brought to the shelter on June 24th, 2026 after being taken away from my family by TOZ because they couldn't provide me with proper veterinary care. Previously, I lived at Wojska Polskiego Street in an apartment, so I know what it's like living with humans and following household rules. I'm a calm, gentle, and a bit unique dog. I have my own personality and little world, but most of all, I love human interaction. Being close to my owner, spending time together, and having peaceful moments brings me great joy. I value love, care, and a sense of security. At home, I keep clean, walk nicely on a leash, and can adapt to the daily rhythm of living in an apartment. I get along with other dogs, but in my future home, I would prefer to be an only dog - I want my human all to myself. I'm still waiting for my sterilization surgery, but even now, I dream about having a home where I can spend peaceful years. I'm looking for someone who will love me just the way I am and show me that after difficult times, there can be a time full of warmth and closeness. If you're looking for a big, gentle, and loyal friend, maybe I'm waiting for you?

Wojska Polskiego w mieszkaniu, dlatego dobrze znam życie u boku człowieka i domowe zasady. Jestem spokojną, łagodną i trochę wyjątkową sunią.

About Berta

What life with Berta looks like

Berta is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko Zabrze in Zabrze.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Berta, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Berta?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Zabrze handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Berta on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Berta if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Zabrze will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Berta already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Berta isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Zabrze early rather than rehoming privately; they know Berta and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
