Bertie

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Adult · 5 years

Our dear Bertie is looking for his people. Thank you, Claudia, our beloved patron. When I was freed from the chain, there were also kittens in my dog kennel, I offered them protection even though I myself didn't have much, they were allowed to eat from my bowl A very dear, good-hearted and incredibly friendly and grateful boy The handsome boy gets along well with all dogs and is now waiting on our Ankerhunde-Ranch in Bosnia for his big chance: a home of his own with loving people He is about 5 years old, about 45 cm tall, weighs 10 kilos and travels chipped, neutered and vaccinated We really hope that he finally gets his chance at a beautiful dog life He was tested positive for heartworm, is now undergoing therapy and we are applying for further therapy for Bertie Become a sponsor for Bertie

About Bertie

What life with Bertie looks like

Bertie is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ankerhunde e.V. in Novi Grad.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇧🇦Adopting from Bosnia and Herzegovina

The shelter typically completes the animal's vaccinations, microchipping, and pet passport before adoption. Specific fees and process details vary by shelter and country — confirm directly via the contact details in the sidebar.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bertie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bertie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ankerhunde e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bertie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bertie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ankerhunde e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bertie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bertie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ankerhunde e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bertie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
