Betty

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 9 years

Is There Hope for Our Betty? Betty (born 2017) is one of the dogs from the large Targu Jiu rescue in June 2023. She is a quiet, cautious soul who needs time, calm, and empathetic people. When visitors approach, she initially withdraws and seeks shelter behind her hut – a behavior that shows how much she has learned to protect herself. That some photos of her have been taken at all is a small miracle and a sign that she would be ready to open up – if only she is given enough trust. In August 2025, Betty was moved from the large outdoor enclosure to a smaller area in the main building. Fortunately, more and more kennels are becoming free, and the runs there are cleaner and easier to reach. However, she can no longer properly retreat there. When her individual distance is crossed, she responds with a quiet growl – an expression of stress, not aggression. In the more spacious, airy outdoor area (though dirtier), she was somewhat more approachable. This clearly shows that the confined daily life of the shelter is taking a heavy toll on her. She can hardly cope with the stress anymore. Who Will Give Betty a Real Chance? Betty needs people with experience, patience, and a big heart. People who understand that trust may grow – slowly, quietly, in small steps. She needs an environment that gives her security and shows her that life can be more than fear and withdrawal. We urgently seek a foster home or loving adopters for Betty who can give her hope again. Betty is neutered and will be vaccinated, microchipped, and placed with a protection contract after a positive pre-screening. General note on our dogs: Our dogs in Romania are visited regularly so that we can continually reassess their behavior and development. These personal impressions help us greatly in conveying as accurate a picture as possible of each individual dog. However, we would like to point out that a dog in a new environment – with new people, new routines, and new impressions – may show itself differently. This is entirely normal and part of any process of change. Many dogs open up even faster at home and show sides of themselves that were not visible at the shelter. Our assessments are therefore based on current observations, but are not a guarantee for every behavior in a new environment. They are meant to provide guidance and show how the dog presents itself at the shelter – and what potential lies within it. We are convinced that with patience, understanding, and a loving environment, every dog can find its way and continue to develop positively.

Gibt es Hoffnung für unsere Betty?Betty (geb.

About Betty

What life with Betty looks like

Betty is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Vierbeiner in Not e.V. in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Betty, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Betty?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Vierbeiner in Not e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Betty on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Betty if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Vierbeiner in Not e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Betty already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Betty isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Vierbeiner in Not e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Betty and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
