Biga

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 5 years

Biga is approximately 4-5 years old and weighs 11 kg. She is a calm, gentle dog who was taken in from very poor conditions along with several other dogs. The dogs that arrived at the shelter were in a terrible state - almost completely hairless, with serious skin problems and neglected for a long time. Biga also went through this difficult stage, but today she is the best proof of how much care and attention can change. Over two months have passed since those events and Biga is unrecognizable. Her fur has grown back beautifully, she has regained her healthy appearance, the dog has regained her strength and returned to good condition. She no longer takes any medication and feels very well. From a neglected and abused dog, she has changed into a calm dog who slowly learns that a person can give a sense of security. Biga is very gentle and has never shown us or volunteers the slightest aggression. She willingly accepts calm contact with a person, but is still afraid of sudden movements. Sudden gestures or too fast an approach can scare her, so she will best find herself with patient people who will allow her to gain confidence at her own pace. This is a dog that needs peace, predictability and a sense that nothing bad will happen to her. She is bravely learning to walk on a leash and is making steady progress. However, it should be remembered that she has not had the opportunity to experience the hustle and bustle of the city, busy streets or many daily stimuli that a dog living at home encounters. The first weeks after adoption should be devoted to calm socialization, getting to know new places and building her confidence in the surrounding world. Due to previous skin problems, Biga needs a medicated shampoo once a week for the next month or two to fully take care of skin and coat regeneration. This is part of further care, not treatment, because her health has improved a lot. Biga has had a full veterinary check-up - she has been vaccinated, dewormed, chipped and spayed and is ready to move into her new, loving home.

PL·Show original

Jej sierść pięknie odrosła, nabrała zdrowego wyglądu, sunia odzyskała siły i wróciła do dobrej kondycji.

About Biga

What life with Biga looks like

Biga is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko Czekadełko in Poland.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Biga, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Biga?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Czekadełko handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Biga on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Biga if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Czekadełko will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Biga already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Biga isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Czekadełko early rather than rehoming privately; they know Biga and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
