Bilbo

Male · Senior · 13 years

Seeing Bilbo, our hearts break with sorrow. An old, calm, barely seeing and hearing dog, who is now on retirement, instead of the warmth of a home, has only the cold concrete of a shelter's kennel. No wonder Bilbo is scared. Although he had a home in the past, he was probably a yard dog. At the animal shelter, he found out that walking can be fun, and the touch of a human hand is pleasant. Unfortunately, Bilbo has been unwell recently - the dog lost his left eye. Tests showed that the dog couldn't see with it before, but over time it started to look worse and probably caused Bilbo pain. Bilbo is confused by the new situation, but bravely copes. We beg for a home for this dog! Bilbo is not a cuddly dog type, he has his own opinions on many topics, but deserves a dignified canine retirement by the side of a loving person. In our opinion, he could also live with a kind resident dog. We don't know his relationship with cats. We also invite you to our volunteers' social media groups, where you will find stories about the lives of our charges at the animal shelter, information about adoptions, greetings from homes, educational posts, and much more! About Bilbo

What life with Bilbo looks like

Bilbo is a medium-sized senior dog waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

Note from the shelter: Vision and hearing impaired, lost left eye due to blindness and pain, requires patient and understanding owner

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bilbo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bilbo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bilbo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bilbo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bilbo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bilbo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bilbo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
