Bilbo

Male · Adult · 6 years

Bilbo is a small, fragile boy with huge, telescope-like ears and a very delicate heart. A little like Bilbo Baggins at the beginning of his story – sensitive and cautious, but each day becoming braver. Although the beginning at the animal shelter was difficult for him, today you can already see a completely different dog – curious, more and more open to people and the world. Bilbo gladly goes for walks and with great interest explores the surroundings. He loves sniffing and calmly discovering new smells, collecting his small "adventures" at his own pace. In relation to people, he has changed a lot - he is much more open to contact. He approaches known people himself, nudges with his nose looking for attention or a treat, and gladly accepts calm petting. Treats are a great motivation for him and help build a relationship and confidence. With other dogs, he is rather indifferent or gently, positively interested. He doesn't look for conflicts, prefers to quietly observe and go his own way. Bilbo was found with a collar, so he had a caregiver before. We are looking for a home for him that will give him a sense of security and allow him to continue to flourish. He will best find himself with calm, patient people who are willing to accompany him in further exploration of the world. He is no bigger than a terrier, but - just like his literary namesake - he has the potential for a great story. In the right hands, Bilbo can become a wonderful, faithful companion who will joyfully experience daily adventures by the side of his own "team". Bilbo has already been neutered and is therefore fully ready to embark on the journey to a new home!

PL·Show original

Uwielbia węszyć i spokojnie odkrywać nowe zapachy, zbierając swoje małe „przygody” we własnym tempie.

About Bilbo

What life with Bilbo looks like

Bilbo is a medium-sized adult dog waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bilbo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bilbo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bilbo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bilbo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bilbo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bilbo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bilbo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
